However, I should mention that if your iMac only has USB 2.0 ports, you're going to be waiting a LOOONNNG time for that to boot up if you ever need it. Provided you make a COPY of the El Capitan installer before running it, you can then make a bootable USB drive of it using Diskmaker X (do a search, it's donationware). ![]() ![]() Of course you should create a working clone backup of the system as it is now, and I'd suggest using Carbon Copy Cloner (free 30-day trial, then you should buy it because it is fantastic). Those will need to be either upgraded or replaced.
